- Who doesn't love a good novelty toaster? This one's like a defibrillator! Imagine how dramatic your breakfast could be: "Live, damn it, live! You've never given up on anything in your life, now fight! Fight!!"
- There are already way too many versions of Monopoly out there, and a DC Universe-themed one would make exactly no sense, so it's probably just as well the project got cancelled. But I still love these sketches by Mike Allred for the Community Chest cards. (Via)
- At last, some plot details for Lars von Trier's upcoming sci-fi epic, Melancholia. Intriguing.
- The Venice Film Festival's competition lineup sounds pretty impressive. Included are the latest projects from Sofia Coppola (Somewhere, starring Stephen Dorff), Tom Tykwer (Three), Takashi Miike (13 Assassins), Vincent Gallo (Promises Written in Water), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), and Tsui Hark (Detective Dee and the Mystery of Phantom Flame).
- That Total Recall readaptation is on the way, with direction by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) and writing by Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen, Salt, Equilibrium). Hmmm...
- Various Grant Morrison movies are in the works! Woo hoo!
- This teaser trailer for Sinbad: The Fifth Voyage isn't particularly impressive, but the filmmakers appear to be following in Ray Harryhausen's footsteps, which could be fun.

- A sequel to Monsters Inc. is scheduled to be released on November 16th, 2012. Good stuff! (Via)
- Dark Night Of The Soul, the musical collaboration between David Lynch, Danger Mouse, and some dude who calls himself Sparklehorse, now has a release date: July 13th. (Via)
- Fun new clips from Iron Man 2.
- The Venture Bros' awesome ode to progressive rock. YES!
- If Daniel Craig doesn't come back for the next James Bond movie (whenever that is), Sam Worthington might take his place. Man, that guy gets all the jobs anymore!
- Word has it Marvel might make a series of smaller budget films to cover some of its lesser known properties, like Dr. Strange and Luke Cage. While I'd definitely like to see a Dr. Strange movie, I'm not sure I like the idea of them throwing together a cheap film adaptation just to have one. But we'll see how this goes.
- Ridley Scott revealed some plot details for the upcoming Alien prequel in an interview with MTV. It'll be set 30 years before the first movie and focus on the story of the "space jockey" who appeared in the derelict spacecraft.
- Check out this beard trustworthiness scale. Depending on whether you interpret my beard as a "Full Beard" or a "Homeless Beard," I'm either "Very Trustworthy" or verging on "Threatening." (Via)
- A couple of cool gamer-related images.
- Fun with LEGO.
- Looks like The Last Airbender and Green Hornet are both getting converted to 3D now, too. I was all for 3D at first, but this is really getting a little ridiculous.
- Okay, now that's just kind of twisted.

- Above, please find the thrilling, beautiful, atmospheric trailer for a modern day Western out of Australia called Red Hill. I need to see this. (Via)
- Damn it, now I might have to watch Clone Wars again. There's an episode coming up that features a teenage Boba Fett. (Also, it's been 30 years since Empire Strikes Back?? That hurts me in my heart.) (Via)
- A twisted web comic: Alien vs. Pooh. I got to page 26 before the thing crapped out on me. I think the site might be overwhelmed by heavy traffic. (Via)
- A preview of the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 seems to feature Imhotep vs. the Brood, Zhang Heng vs. a giant robot samurai, and Leonardo Da Vinci vs. Galactus. Holy crap!!! (Via)
- Pretty great new Arctic Monkeys track called "My Propeller." The band seems to be settling down and getting a bit more serious. (Via)
- Getting a character lost in time is the new thing to do in comic books these days. Here's a gallery of covers that show Iron Man travelling through time.
- Cargo sounds like a pretty amazing movie. Looking forward to it.
- Wish you could "improve" every video you own with Star Trek-style lens flares? Well, you're in luck! There's an app for that!
- Dude! The next album on Beck's Record Club list is one of my favorites of all time: Kick by INXS. Every track on this album is a hit. I'm really looking forward to hearing them all get covered. First up is "Guns in the Sky."
- Marvel will be celebrating Avengers Day at comic book shops across the nation on May 19th. Besides offering various Avengers-related memorabilia, Marvel will also be launching five new Avengers books that day: Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr.; New Avengers by Bendis and Stuart Immonen; Secret Avengers by Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato; Avengers Academy by Christos Gage and Mike McKone; and Avengers Prime, a miniseries by Bendis and Alan Davis. Well, I can definitely avoid Academy because I'm not a fan of Gage's work, and I definitely want to try Secret Avengers, because Brubaker and Deodato are both fantastic talents. The rest I'll have to flip through and consider.
- Dinoogle is Google, but with dinosaurs. Boom! (Via)
- Some details on what Avatar's deleted scenes contain, and when and how we might see them.
- I'm not sure what kind of card game Space-O is, but I kind of want to play it.
- I love this Magritte-inspired Magic the Gathering card. The Buckminster Fuller one is pretty great, too.
- Cute, fun greeting card designs, and an excellent illustration of some urban legends (although they're really more mythical beasts than urban legends). (Via)
- Pixar veteran Brad Bird might direct Mission: Impossible IV.
- That Buck Rogers remake that was talked about a while back is being revived, now in 3D (natch) with Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm. Seeing as how Frank Miller was the one guy originally attached to the film, this might actually be a step up.
- A weird new meme: Release the Kraken! (Via)
- The story of the life of a plastic bag, as narrated by Werner Herzog. Good lord.

- Above is a video where a bunch of folks took tweets not written by them and turned them into short short films. I thought it would be lame, but it's surprisingly hilarious and brilliant. Oh, and also slightly NSFW. (Via)
- Tim Burton's got a new movie coming out today, and College Humor takes the opportunity to reveal his secret formula. Yeah, he does get a bit repetitive, doesn't he? I still want to see his Alice, though, despite some bad buzz.
- io9 has put together a pretty excellent heavy metal gaming playlist for you. Tons of fantastic music here. Sadly, the downloads all appear to be short samples and not full songs.
- Comparing the final scene of Back to the Future with its recreation in Back to the Future II.
- Hilariously confused and confusing bookbag.
- A mean, nasty, dishonest, clever, funny way to get a cheap iPod.
- New Futurama on Comedy Central in June!!
- Guy Ritchie could be directing the new version of Excalibur written by Warren Ellis. I am so there.
- A cute version of the white rabbit of Wonderland.
- A PDF of a pretty brilliant Star Wars-themed parody of the children's book Goodnight Moon. It's called Goodnight Forest Moon. (Via)
- Check out a collection of amazing posters from The Lost Art of Inglourious Basterds.
- Another awesome and exciting image from Tron Legacy.

- Chapter 2 of The Chronicles of Solomon Stone #2. Beware: it's very silly. (Via)
- The long in coming and really seemingly past its freshness date Magic: The Gathering movie could be set in contemporary times and not be quite as fantastical as one might have expected. Uh, seriously, why are they even bothering?
- And now, a Space Invaders movie. Sigh.
- Here's a video and some explanation of "Skinput," "a device that turns your body into a touchscreen by sensing movements in your skin and muscle." You can play games on your own body!
- A very creepy trailer for the supernatural thriller After.Life, starring Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson.
- Stephen Lang, the bad-ass military dude from Avatar, has been offered the role of the villain (Khalar Singh) in the new Conan movie.
- Three guys helped a blind guy beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by writing down every single controller movement necessary to do so. He then had his computer read the move-by-move walkthrough back to him as he played. Insane!
- The Burger King Noah's Ark: two of every kind of patty on a bun, plus bacon and toppings. Huagh!
- Evil Dead as a 60-second claymation short.
- 37 blockbusters and the code names they were filmed under.
- The official synopsis of the Captain America film sounds encouragingly identical to an official synopsis of his comic book origin story.
- A couple of amazing pieces of Star Wars art, and another amazing piece of Alice in Wonderland art.
- Cool Lovecraftian sculptures.
- From the desk of Batman.
- These two recent Comics Alliance posts have something in common: hotness!
- Another good reason to go see Alice in Wonderland this weekend: the Tron Legacy trailer is playing in front of it!
- Whether you want it or not, Wolverine 2 is coming. It starts filming in January.
- Another period war epic starring Jet Li! It's called The Warlords, and here's a clip. The whole film is available to watch now on various On Demand platforms, and it's coming to theaters next month.
- Really cool fantasy-themed art.

- Above is supposedly a Daft Punk track from the Tron Legacy soundtrack. It kind of totally rules. (Via)
- A preview for a trailer for The Losers, a movie based on a comic book I didn't like. The movie looks like it might be okay, though. (Via) UPDATE: Here's the full trailer (via). It's pretty fantastic, man. The plot is kind of similar to that of The A-Team, which could hurt them with audiences (as The A-Team will have the bigger built-in audience draw), but then again maybe people won't care.
- Illustrator Neill Cameron asked his Twitter followers what he should draw this morning, and @Leenygma came up with the insane suggestion: "A cross between a Sumo Wrestler and a heroic version of the Riddler. With a jetpack." Neill's interpretation of this idea is brilliant.
- Pretty amusing video: Pee-wee Herman gets an iPad. (Via)
- NBC picked up The Cape, an hour long drama about "a disgraced former LA cop who takes up the superhero lifestyle in order to clear his name and reunite with his son." Huh. I didn't think NBC did scripted drama anymore.
- Micro fiction contest! Write a story of 250 words or fewer on the theme of "troubled and/or troubling superhumans." If you win, you get a T-shirt, and the story gets published online. I'm going to have to consider entering this.
- A picture of the internet.
- PETA wants Punxsutawney Phil replaced with a robot. Oh, PETA. You so crazy. (Via)
- LEGO Totoro!!!
- For some reason I'm really pleased that scientists were able to determine the color of this dinosaur's feathers. (Via)
- The UK trailer for the movie adaptation of the popular Swedish crime novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I guess I have to read this eventually.
- I enjoyed the Penny Arcade comic tackling the recent news story about the prison that outlawed D&D (which is totally not cool, btw).

- The guys who wrote Zombieland will be writing the Deadpool movie. Seems like good news.
- Production on Cowboys and Aliens, which will reunite star Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau, will begin this summer.
- As Sci Fi Squad points out, it's pretty funny that the lack of sightings of the Loch Ness Monster has led some to conclude that the monster must have died - but not that it never existed in the first place.
- 100 cupcakes, each representing a different classic game. (Via)
- Sci Fi Wire takes us on a tour of an impressive Alice in Wonderland promo nesting book.
- Check out this awesome trailer for a Japanese horror film called House. It takes some unexpected turns! I really want to see this movie now. Sadly, it does not appear to be on Netflix.

- Fun Monsters vs. Aliens concept art. (Via)
- That photo of the hilariously modified soda fountain gets a further, brilliant modification.

- Cinematical has a rundown of what movie ads we're likely to see during the Super Bowl.

- Download a gigantic collection of lost pop music from the '00s here. Be aware, it takes a looooong time to download. By which I mean, I still haven't got to hear any of it yet. (UPDATE: I have since succeeded in pulling the whole thing down and listening to some of it, and it turns out there's some really fun stuff in there.) (Via)

- Wil Wheaton records an amusing exchange with a friend about the death of a D&D character.
- Seven ridiculous-ass sequels Hollywood almost foisted upon us. Pretty crazy stories of what could have been. (Via)
- Amazing photos of a hundred-year-old tunnel that lies more than 10 stories underground, behind Niagara Falls. (Via)
- Another leaked Dollhouse memo, this one by Topher. (Via)
- Truly awesome Han Solo vs. Captain Kirk knife fight shirt. WANT. (Via)
- Wonderful knitted Mario in Kuribo's shoe, plus a knitted Goomba. (Via)
- Hollywood studios are banning their stars from using Twitter because they think it's damaging the industry. This is the same shortsighted response to new technology that we've seen in the movie and music industries time and time again. Twitter is just another place you can generate publicity for your product! How is that bad?? Instead of sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling when something like this comes along, why don't you figure out how you can use it to your advantage? Idiots. (Via)

- Covering a Weird Al Yankovic parody seems like the height of postmodernism to me. Here's a bunch of MP3 downloads of people doing just that. (Via)
- Everybody's favorite fishy admiral goes for a pop art/hip-hop kind of vibe. (Via)
- Totally cute web comic.
- A team of engineers wants to enclose Houston inside a giant polymer dome to prevent heat and storms from destroying the city. Um... really??
- Marvel, you have enough comics with "Avengers" in the title, and way more than enough comics written by Christos Gage. Why are you putting Gage on a book called Avengers Academy, which will probably be as bad as Avengers: The Initiative? Please stop now.
- A preview of John Byrne's upcoming comic, Angel vs. Frankenstein. I generally like Byrne's work, and this preview is okay, but I don't know. This one sounds a little too silly even for me.
- Apparently there's an unaired, never-before-seen second pilot for Star Trek that's an extra long version of "Where No Man Has Gone Before," and it's going to be released on Blu-ray. One of these days I get the feeling I'm going to have to break down and get a Blu-ray player. In other Star Trek news, looks like the next movie has been pushed back from 2011 to 2012.
- A couple of Thor casting rumors: Robert DeNiro and Jude Law may have joined the cast in unspecified roles, and Dominic Cooper might play one of the Warriors Three.
- It looks like from these photos that the Cylons' "Plan" was to have a lot of sex. Which admittedly is a pretty good plan, but still.
- Fringe could be hurting in the ratings simply because there are so many other big, popular shows on Thursday night.
- Updates on the various X-movies: they want to reboot things for the Deadpool movie, and include the breaking the fourth wall stuff from the comics; the Magneto movie might not happen; and they'll use the recent, darker Harry Potter films as a model for the X-Men First Class franchise.
- Rumor had it that Jackie Earle Haley might play Sinestro in the Green Lantern film; he says no one's asked him, but that he's excited about the movie.

- The 11 most disturbing "Tree House of Horror" segments from The Simpsons.
- Artist Paolo Rivera was left to his own devices when designing a journal about super-soldier experiments in the 1930s for The Marvels Project, so he slipped some Lovecraftian stuff in there. Awesome!

- Chris Kohler at Game|Life says Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is a great game, but it's not really an RPG.
- The bunnies do The Wolf Man. Fun enough, but not their best effort. (Via)
- 5 horror movies you can show your kids. Poltergeist? Really?! I don't know, man, that movie's pretty scary.

- Download the Muppet Mashup album for free! It's "mashups, remixes, and covers of music from The Muppet Show and Sesame Street." I haven't had a chance to listen to it in great detail yet, but what I've heard so far I've really enjoyed. (Via)
- Mr. Bacon's Big Adventure Board Game. I'd play it! (Via)
- Space smells like metal. (Via)
- A salute to mad scientists in cinema. Great list!
- Cinematical picks five guys who could replace Nic Cage as the bad guy in Green Hornet. Good picks.
- Download Squad reviews iTunes 9.
- There's now a (sort of) free version of Dungeons & Dragons Online.
- This great video for The Dead Weather's "Treat Me Like Your Mother" features Jack White and Alison Mosshart shooting holes in each other with automatic weapons until they run out of bullets.
- An unlikely series of photos: Underwater Churches. (Via)
- Pics of folks in costume at PAX.
- A-Team might have its Murdock.
- Warner Brothers and Mattel couldn't come to an agreement on a direction for the Masters of the Universe movie, so they let the option lapse. Not sure how to feel about that. I would like to see a decent He-Man movie, but really, what are the chances of that happening?
- Well, this is confusing and odd. Columbia Pictures just bought an original spec horror action script called Supermax, which "takes place in a Maximum Security Prison for the Super-Natural as a skilled guard must join forces with a lethal inmate after a riot ensues in order to fight his way through various monsters and mad-men in order to survive." This is not the movie by David Goyer called Super Max, which is about Green Arrow fighting his way out of a maximum security prison for supervillains. Huh.
- The Road's release date got pushed back again from October 16th to November 25th.
- I'll take any opportunity to laugh at the Dallas Cowboys.
- Now that the day without cats is over, Cute Overload is having a bit of a cat overload.

- How about some clips from Pandorum? It looks rather snazzy... but it also looks a lot like another Alien clone.
- Toys R Us will pay you for your old video games - even the really old ones.
- Two short films about film, one by the Coen brothers, and one by David Lynch. As one might expect, the former is quirky and funny, and the latter is bizarre and disturbing.
- So it sounds like a Pixar Ant Man probably won't happen. Sigh.
- The top ten African-American sci-fi characters. I love Parker from Alien! Yaphet Kotto rules. But c'mon, Storm sucked in the X-Men movies.
- Apparently when you shake the controller in Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, you can make the woman character's boobs bounce. I am simultaneously horrified and impressed.
- Chibi Namor and Punisher! And also somebody called Gentleman Ghost.
- Apparently Google made the search box slightly bigger? I hadn't noticed myself.
- An excellent true tale of conversational vengeance.

- HA HA HA HA! No.
- A cool photo from the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

- A very moving post by Penny Arcade's Tycho about the recent birth of his baby girl.
- Aww, they're taking apart the giant Gundam statue. That's sad. It's like when they take the circus tents down, except instead of clowns crying, it's cosplayers. (Via)

- The placebo effect is a fascinating phenomenon, and oddly it seems to be getting stronger.
- Cool stuff: "A lost world populated by fanged frogs, grunting fish and tiny bear-like creatures has been discovered in a remote volcanic crater on the Pacific island of Papua New Guinea." I think I saw that movie, or read that comic book! (Via)
- Video of an unreleased Mario game reveals that it's probably best the game remain unreleased.

- An ad from a nightmarish alternate universe for Guitar Hero: The Beatles.
- Patrick Stewart says we're far more likely to see him return as Professor X than as Captain Picard.
- io9 presents an exploration of Hayao Miyazaki's filmography and a guide to fall movies.
- An update on Kevin Smith's horror movie, Red State. Sounds like there's a disagreement over whether the film should get its cast or its budget first.
- I still think trailers for books are weird, but this one for Leviathan is pretty cool. It's about an alternate history WWI where the war is fought with robots and genetically engineered monsters!
- A very cool Mario Bros. display made out of soda boxes.
- I already posted about the next Rambo movie, but this entry on the subject also includes a great table breaking down how many people die, and how, in the Rambo movies.
- A really cool Blade Runner portrait. Also check out this fascinating and disturbing Seven Deadly Sins of Cinema.
- Supposedly the live-action movie version of Akira is back on, with Children of Men and Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby working on the script. The project is considered a "high priority" with a potential 2011 release date if the script is approved.
- Word has it Richard Curtis, creator of Blackadder, is writing a script for the 2010 series of Doctor Who, as well as a screenplay for a low-budget film about a time machine. Nice!
- Remember that Chinese farmer who built his own helicopter? Here's one who built his own submarine.
- All the trailers for the new and returning fall sci-fi shows.
- The legal dispute over Lord of the Rings has been settled, which means the movie adaptations of The Hobbit can proceed. Woo hoo!!
- Another amusing Worth1000 Photoshop contest. (Via)
- UFC champion Rampage Jackson will play B.A. Baracus in the A-Team movie. I have no idea who that is, but if the picture accompanying this post is any indication, he's a great choice.
- Josh Brolin will play the villain in Wall Street 2, and Charlie Sheen will reprise his character from the original in a cameo.
- Ant-Man could become a Pixar movie?? Yes, yes, yes, go, go, go!
- Chris Sims presents "True Bromance: Eleven Great Man-Crushes in Comics." (Via)
