- They're going to make a horror movie about an evil Paul Bunyan called... Bunyan. It will star Joe Estevez of Werewolf fame (yes, the MST3K movie), and it will come out next year. Amazing.
- io9 has collected the early reviews for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. Some are criticizing the movie for its backward ways, but others are praising it. Hmm...
- Terry Gilliam might convert Time Bandits to 3D. He wouldn't be changing anything in the film, just putting it in 3D. I'd watch that!
- Apparently Sam Prekop of The Sea and Cake has a new album! I was excited about this, until I read the Onion A.V. Club's review, and found out it's basically just a lot of random noise. Not sure I really need to hear that.
- The Onion A.V. Club also has an interesting review of Metroid: Other M. The fact that it's sort of on rails is actually attractive to me, as I don't really have time for a game that makes me do a lot of wandering and exploring, but a lot of the other things they mention here don't sound very fun. Still, I'm intrigued. I mean, it's Metroid!
- Apparently they really are going to make a Doctor Strange movie and Stan Lee is going to have a cameo in it. Cool!
- The new (3D, natch) Judge Dredd film will be called simply Dredd and will star Karl Urban as the title character and Olivia Thirlby as his psychic partner.
- Ridley Scott has a few fascinating details about his Alien prequel. Also, Gemma Arterton may star.
- Dude built an impressive working replica of the motorcycle in Excitebike.
- Pizza soda and bacon soda? I'd try 'em.
- Pretty great 8-bit track with appropriate 8-bit video accompaniment.
- A pic from Duncan Jones' Source Code! It's not particularly enlightening or thrilling, but it's a pic from the film, nonetheless.
- LEGO TARDIS! Very nice. I feel like the claim that it's functional is probably an exaggeration, though.
- Masters of the Universe as a medieval religious icon.
- Love the Metroid print.
- Wizard Alley.
- Angelina Jolie leaving Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity almost killed the movie, but supposedly Natalie Portman might save the day by taking over for her.
- An interesting preview of Epic Mickey.
- D'oh. Sounds like Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote movie is dead in the water again, due to the financing falling through.
- Official sonic screwdriver Wii Remote??!!? Give to me! Now!

- Above, Cookie Monster performs metal. (Via Tom)
- Hayao Miyazaki says if Studio Ghibli's upcoming film, Arietty the Borrower, doesn't do well at the box office, the studio may have to be shut down. I can't tell you how sad that makes me. Especially since Miyazaki says if they do have some box office successes, he'd make a sequel to Porco Rosso set during the Spanish Civil War, and I need to see that movie. Everybody go see Arietty the Borrower when it comes out, for God's sake!!! (Via Camden)
- Speaking of Miyazaki, you can watch his Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind online for free. And you should! I also highly recommend the manga. (Via)
- Yeah, I gotta admit, this new Cee-Lo track that's going around is pretty fantastic. FYI, the lyrics are NSFW, and since the video linked here is just the lyrics printed on the screen, it's pretty much NSFW all the way around. (Via Amy)
- A creative use for old ink cartridges.
- Alternate universe movie posters. As in, movies from alternate universes, not movies set in alternate universes. I so wish I could see The Gunslinger starring Clint Eastwood, Ricky Shroder, and Jack Nicholson. Also, Leonardo DiCaprio as Kid Kthulu? Bruce Lee as Neo? Brilliant.
- Sufjan Stevens put out a new EP that you can download for $5, or stream for free. I'm listening now! Can't say I'm all that impressed so far, but I'm still making my way through the first track, which is almost 12 minutes long. Good old Sufjan. (Via)
- Paramount is giving a live-action Ninja Turtles movie another go for some reason. They didn't so much like the first draft of the screenplay, however, so they're getting another draft from the guys who did second draft work on Iron Man.
- An amusing Lord of the Rings-themed sketch.
- Everybody knows what a No. 2 pencil looks like, but what about all the other No. pencils? Here's a handy graphic.
- Pretty cool ad for Metroid: Other M. Although, considering that I can't find the time or the energy to play the Metroid games I already own, I probably won't be getting this one.
- Rumor has it that Shia LaBeouf says a fifth Indiana Jones film is already being written, and that the concept for it sounds "crazy" and "really cool" to him. Uh huh. Don't count your fridges before they're nuked!
- Bryan Singer revealed some details about the upcoming X-Men: First Class movie. It'll be set in the '60s, so the mutants' struggle can be easily compared with the civil rights movement; the costumes will be comic bookish; the Hellfire Club will be the villains, with Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw (!!!); other characters featured: Emma Smith, Azazel, Moira McTaggert, Beast, Darwin, Raven Darkholme, Banshee, Havok, Mystique, Charles Xavier, and a female version of Angel. Say what? Well... okay then.
- An early review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. The reviewer is generally positive, and one of his only problems with the movie is a complaint he had with the book, as well, and seeing as how I had almost no complaints with the book, I'm okay with that.

- You can own your own TARDIS! (Note: TARDIS does not work.)
- Star Wars characters wearing modern fashions.
- In honor of Father's Day, io9 picked the best and worst fathers in sci-fi. What, Captain Kirk a bad father?! Oh... wait, yeah. I guess I have to give them Walter Bishop, too, but come on! He's trying so hard now!
- Here's video of a guy playing the music AND sound effects for classic video games live on the violin.
- Here's a website that lists movies by how many people (and animals) died in them. (Via)
- 22 ordinary things that look like the Starship Enterprise. Some of these are cheating in my opinion, but still.
- Photos from the set of The Hobbit. Yay!!
- Another cool trailer for Metroid: Other M.
- John Carpenter's The Thing in seven minutes. This was handy, as I haven't seen that movie in a long time. Maybe it's time to rewatch it, in its entirety... (Via)
- Photos from the official opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
- This time around, I'm totally obsessed with World Cup. It seems like every sport I turn my attention on now I fall in love with. Anyway, I definitely prefer watching World Cup to watching the Phillies at the moment, because gah! I particularly love the dry wit of the commentators, and the way they do not mince words at all, but brutally rip into everybody on the field: the teams, the officials. It's great. Here's a spiffy calendar for following the standings (via). You can also follow the matches in real-time on Fifa.com.
- We could have electronic eyeglasses by the end of this year: "Liquid crystals can change their refractive index when an electrical charge is put through them, so wearers can switch between distance and reading in the time it takes to blink.... Putting in the kind of motion sensors that are used in the iPhone also allows the glasses to sense when someone is reading a book or a newspaper and so change the focal distance of the lenses automatically."

- In the movie Captain America will have two costumes: his public-appearance, USO suit, and his practical fighting suit. The former will be similar to the costume we're used to seeing on him; the latter will be quite different. You can find a description here. Another Marvel-related tidbit: Josh "Sawyer" Holloway of Lost fame might have a lead role in an upcoming Marvel film.
- Probably you've already seen the terrifying, mind-blowing photos of the gigantic sinkhole in Guatemala, which seems to look down into the very core of the Earth, but just in case you haven't...
- A couple of fun Ren and Stimpy illustrations.
- A new plot summary for the Green Lantern film refers to only one villain, and it's neither of the guys that have been mentioned so far. In fact, it's Parallax. Hopefully this is not really the official plot synopsis, because it would mean they're trying to cover too many characters and too much story in one movie. Plus, I'm just not a huge fan of Parallax.
- These Mario Kart RC toys sound amazing. They can actually pick up power-ups and use them on each other!
- Speaking of Mario, check out this amazing gameplay trailer for the fan-made game Super Mario Bros. X. It's like a combination of every Mario game ever, with tons of crazy new power-ups thrown in for good measure, and even some levels where Mario invades other games, like Metroid, Super Metroid, and Legend of Zelda 2!
- Clever Star Wars art.
- A custom NES with Tron stylings, and My Little Pony versions of Hellboy characters. (Via)
- A blog is asking for art submissions to help celebrate Captain Picard Day on June 16th. Also, clever, cute redesigns of the Scooby gang. (Via)
- Super Punch reveals all the submissions to, and winners of, a recent Red Sonja art contest.

- The early reviews for Iron Man 2 are disappointingly mixed, and are even leaning towards poor. I am sad.
- Gorillaz and Alan Moore are collaborating on an opera about the 16th century alchemist John Dee. It's not often that I get to put that much awesome into one sentence. I'm going to sit back and enjoy it for a moment. Aaahhh...
- Ridley Scott says his Monopoly movie will be about greed - specifically, it will be "a comedy that will look at the 'bloodbath' and 'bad behavior' in the real estate market that led to the current economic crisis."
- A sequel to Clash of the Titans is in the offing, with Louis Leterrier moving from director to producer, Sam Worthington keeping his starring role, and an as yet unnamed person taking over writing duties.
- Jon Favreau talks about Cowboys and Aliens and makes it sound pretty fun.
- A Predators video clip focusing on Danny Trejo's character, Cuchillo.
- If you ever enjoyed any classic 8-bit Nintendo games, you must play Super Mario Crossover. This is a slick, brilliant game that allows you to play the original Super Mario Bros. as any of a rather large group of classic video game characters, including Link, Samus Aran, Simon Belmont, Mega Man, or the dude from Contra. It's amazing how well the designer has integrated these characters and their abilities into this new setting, and how much it changes the game. (Via)
- I have no choice but to enjoy this Threadless design entitled "There and Back Again," which envisions Tolkien's Middle Earth as a London Underground route map. I only wish I could get a larger version of the graphic so I could take a closer look at it. (Via)
- The new trailer for The Last Airbender is pretty cool. Lots of impressive effects and action, and you get a better look at Appa. I'm still worried about the writing and the actors, though. There isn't a lot of dialog in here, but none of it is all that impressive, or delivered all that well. Still, I remain optimistic.
- Man, now I'm even more excited for the noir episode of Fringe. Over at this link you'll find a fantastic, black and white, old school-style trailer for the episode, plus a more traditional preview.
- A city made entirely of staples.
- The Grand Ole Bestiary includes a lot of very well-dressed, respectable-looking animals.
- Super Punch describes Laurie Lipton's drawings as dense and grim, and I have to agree. They're also very impressive work.
- An amusing Doctor Who poster. (Via)
- Illustrator Jim Tierney has some great work on display in this post, including a four-part piece inspired by The Hobbit which I am almost obligated to love. (Via)
- Great comic book-inspired art from Mike Huddleston.
- Are you a Facebook user who's sick to death of FarmVille? Then you might enjoy Barnville, a game which allows you to take violent revenge on a whole host of farm animals. (Via)
- Columbia is running out of time to make Ghost Rider 2. They'll lose the rights to the character if they don't start production soon. Even if they do manage to do it, they may not be able to get Nicolas Cage back, as he's busy with other things. Woo hoo!

- io9 interviews M. Night Shyamalan about The Last Airbender. He admits balancing the humor with the edginess was hard. He says his kids forced him to put Momo in the movie, but that he also had no choice but to cut a lot of other things, including the cabbage salesman (sadness!). He's determined to do three movies. It sounds like in one of those later films he might actually reveal what happens to Zuko's mom, which was one of the few loose ends left untied in the series. He also talks about Miyazaki being a huge influence, which is encouraging. I remain cautiously optimistic about these movies.
- Christopher Walken as M.O.D.O.K.
- A milk jug that knows when the milk has gone bad.
- Stephen Dorff has joined the cast of War of the Gods as Stavros, "a master thief who joins Theseus on his quest to help free Greece from the dark threat of the Titans."
- You've gotta love the fake company websites they make for big movies these days. Check out the site for Stark Expo 2010 (for Iron Man 2, via), and the site for Encom International (for Tron Legacy).
- The first trailer for Metroid: Other M focused on the story and the melodrama, and it sucked; this new trailer focuses on the action and the gameplay and it's much, much better. In fact, this game looks awesome.
- I love this Disney/Magritte mashup T-shirt.
- Lots of impressive work from the Society of Illustrators 2010 Student Scholarship competition.
- A fan made a brilliant, thrilling, action-packed trailer for the original Tron.
- Speaking of fan-made trailers, here's one for an imaginary Battlestar Galactica spin-off called The Twelve Colonies, set during the first big war with the Cylons.
- I hate umbrellas, but even I might go out of my way to purchase one if it had a broadsword handle.
- Sony BMG took down Beyonce's official YouTube channel for copyright infringement. Hahahahahaha!

- A cleverly altered movie poster.
- Some interesting suggestions for Disney concepts that deserve reimagining. I remember deeply loving both the book and the original film version of Something Wicked This Way Comes (although I haven't read or seen either in ages), so I'd be both excited about, and leery of, any kind of remake.
- Casting news for Green Lantern: Temuera "Jango Fett" Morrison will play Abin Sur and Taika Waititi will play Hal Jordan's best friend Thomas Kalmaku.
- If you're into this whole steampunk thing (which I sort of am), you'll probably want to check out this gallery of photos from a steampunk exhibition.
- Michel Gondry and Ghost World scribe Daniel Clowes are teaming up for two projects: a time-travel drama starring Ellen Page, and Megalomania, "an animated film about a group of children who harness the power of hair to save the world from an evil dictatorship." Uh... okay. Megalomania features the voice talents of Seth Rogen, Steve Buscemi, and Juliette Lewis. Gondry is apparently a busy guy these days, as he's also writing "The Return of The Ice Kids, a film about a curious form of water that allows you to hear music upon drinking it." He is truly a strange fellow.
- io9 pores over the available Predators info and finds some interesting stuff, including homages to past Predator films hidden in the new footage.
- Fun concept art for a failed Dan Dare TV movie.
- The vocals are imperfect, but otherwise Ted Leo And The Pharmacists' cover of Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is pretty fun. Plus, it inspired me to listen to the original, which always fills me with joy.
- I was pretty excited when I heard that Mickey Rourke would play Conan's Dad in the new movie, but now it sounds like that's not to be. Thankfully, his replacement is as good or better: the mighty Ron Perlman!
- LEGO dinosaur skeleton.
- A couple of fun T-shirt designs.
- More amusing Star Wars propaganda posters.
- Pretty cool Batman art.
- Paul Atreides LEGO CubeDude! Nerdtastic!
- A selection of beautiful drawings by Kiersten Essenpreis.
- I don't want to like Adidas' new line of Star Wars sneakers and clothing, but man, some of this stuff is just awesome.
- A positive hands-on report on Metroid: Other M.
- Steven Spielberg is supposedly interested in directing a Drew "Cloverfield" Goddard adaptation of a new book called Robopocalypse, which is about... well, it's really pretty self-explanatory.
- David Fincher is in talks to direct Pawn Sacrifice, a movie about Bobby Fischer's life leading up to the legendary match against Boris Spassky. I've been disappointed by some of Fincher's recent work, and Fischer is just a complete nutcase anymore, but still, this could be interesting.

- Look up and check out the hot new Robin Hood trailer. This movie is really looking good. Max Von Sydow! Love that guy. Rise, and rise again! (Via)
- Warner Bros. has picked up a script treatment called Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever which "re-imagines [the artist] as a member of a secret society who falls headlong into a supernatural adventure that pits him against biblical demons in a story involving secret codes, lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels." Dude. I'd watch that. As long as it's nothing like The Da Vinci Code.
- LEGO mosaic Totoro!!
- Cool posters for Aliens vs. Predator 2 and Tron Legacy.
- Fun LEGO version of a scene from Up.
- Dude, sweet! Hugo Weaving is going to be the Red Skull! This makes me feel loads better about the casting of Captain America.
- They're going to release an extended version of Avatar to theaters in late summer. Oh, come on! Just stop. You already made all the money in the world!
- Check out "The Video Game Bosses' Lament." It's funny, and nostalgic! I played a lot of those games.
- The producer of Metroid: Other M reveals which filmmakers inspired the game's style.
- Cool art involving castles, knights, and dragons.
- Man, I hate regular expressions. They're useful and powerful, but they're so confusing that I rarely take the time to try to figure out how to put one together that can help me. So this online tool for building them could really come in handy. (Via)
- Criminal Empire for Dummys sounds like it could be a fun crime drama. The cast includes Michael Clarke Duncan, Harvey Keitel, and Gary Oldman.
- So, they're making a live-action Smurfs movie starring Neil Patrick Harris as... somebody, Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, and now Quentin Tarantino as Brainy Smurf. Umm... what? This is real? This is not a joke?
- UPDATE: They're gonna make a Dan Dare movie! And they want Sam Worthington to play Dare! Nice!

- I already tweeted about this yesterday, but I'll post it here again because it's kind of a big deal: HBO has given the greenlight for 10 episodes of a Game of Thrones TV series. I'm very excited about this, although how I'm going to watch it I'm not sure, as I no longer get HBO.
- The other day I posted the book trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and now it sounds like I'll be posting the movie trailer one of these days. Yes, Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov are already on board to produce a film adaptation of the book.
- A pinball machine you can control with your mind!
- Just going to go ahead and quote this one: "A California physics student has petitioned the International System of Units to declare 10 to the 27th power (a trillion trillions) to be a 'hella.' As in meters, kilometers, hellameters. If he prevails, the universe officially becomes hella big."
- Some plot details on James Cameron's next sci-fi saga, a film adaptation of the manga Battle Angel Alita.
- A new trailer for the Prince of Persia movie. That didn't come out yet? Jeez. It feels like I've been seeing ads for that movie for years. (Via)
- Earth totally kicked Mars' ass in the Olympics! Boo-yah!
- Sci Fi Wire gives us a rundown on a bunch of upcoming horror remakes. I didn't even know about a lot of these. And I'm really not sure what can be gained by remaking Suspiria.
- Another James Cameron project that's moving ahead: Fantastic Voyage. The script is done and Cameron's looking for a director.
- The Wicker Man as an online comic, with all the characters replaced by Muppets. Bet you didn't expect to see that today when you got up this morning. (Via)
- Here's an incredibly disappointing trailer for Metroid: Other M. Looks more like the trailer for a bad, melodramatic anime than the trailer for a Metroid game. Thankfully it reassures you by posting a note at the bottom: "Not actual gameplay."
- More Super Punch Tarot cards.
- Apparently despite the poor ratings, Syfy is standing by Caprica. Guess I should keep paying attention to that show after all!
