Gnus 6: Revenge of the Gnus
 by Fëanor

  • Sweet! Thanks to Sarcasmo for this one:

    gandalf
    Congratulations! You're Gandalf!

Which Lord of the Rings character and personality problem are you?
    brought to you by Quizilla

  • The postcards sent in to PostSecret can be shatteringly deep and personal and moving. And they can also be really funny.

  • Does anybody remember those DivX DVDs that would only work a few times, and then crap out, and you'd have to get rid of them? It was supposed to replace renting. Well, Microsoft is trying it again with single-play DVDs. Cinematical seems to think this is another nail in Blockbuster's coffin, and I'm always up for that, but I just don't see it. I kind of agree more with the folks at Movie Blog on this: it's just stupid. You're creating a product no one will really want, which will produce enormous amounts of garbage. But I guess that's kind of your thing, isn't it Mr. Gates?

  • Is there anyone who actually wants to see a Gilligan's Island motion picture, starring Adam Sandler, no less? Seriously, who wants that? Besides SATAN, I mean.

  • Christopher Nolan's next film is supposed to be The Prestige, based on a novel about rival magicians whose competition for the best tricks escalates into a murderous one. The screenplay was written by Christopher's brother Jonathan, who apparently also wrote the story for Memento. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are being courted to play the magicians. Sounds awesome from top to bottom. Definitely looking forward to this one.

  • Salon tells me this morning that Bush has picked his replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor, and it's Harriet Miers, a female crony of his with no judicial experience. Is this surprising news? Certainly not. Bush seems to make all of his employment decisions based on loyalty to himself and his family, with complete disregard to actual qualifications for the job. But it does make me feel ill.

  • I'd dodged the bullet so far, but now Cyn has tagged me with this Fives Meme, so I guess I have to do it. Damn you, pink haired girl! *shakes fist*

10 years ago I was: Seventeen. Nearing the end of my career at high school. Feeling perhaps slightly better about myself and life than I had during freshman year, but still plenty lonely, shy, and unhappy. Also still convinced I'd be a writer, even if it meant living on almost nothing.

5 years ago I was: 22! That year I finished up college--the class of double nothing. Then I answered my first newspaper ad ("Have a useless English or History degree?") and had a job. And one I found pretty enjoyable, with a pretty great atmosphere. Only thing is, it was in computers and programming, and not writing. Ah, well.

Yesterday I: Still working at that job (thought it's changed a bit), but doing a little writing of a kind on the side. More specifically, poppy and I were down in Cape May yesterday, hitting the beach, reading, checking out the animals in the zoo. Then we came back, tried to take care of some chores at home, and welcomed Rusty (my parents' dog) back to our house for a week's stay. I also listened to/watched the Eagles somehow come back and steal a dirty victory from the Kansas City Chiefs. And I beat Bowser's team in Mario Superstar Baseball.

    5 snacks I enjoy:
    1. Chips (Tostitos white corn rounds) and salsa (medium)

    2. French fries (preferably small and crispy)

    3. Cheese and crackers

    4. Cookies (particularly Oreos or chocolate chip cookies)

    5. Doritos

5 songs I know all the words to:
(A better way to put it would be "5 songs I can sing reasonably well given the music to prompt me.")
    1. "New Day Rising" - Husker Du (Okay, this is kind of a cheat, as the title is the complete lyrics of the song, but it's technically accurate)

    2. "Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd

    3. "O My God" - The Police

    4. "I'm on Fire" - Bruce Springsteen

    5. "Good Times Bad Times" - Led Zeppelin

5 things I would do with 100 million dollars:
    1. Buy a nice beach house for poppy and I

    2. Set up a movie theater in my house (maybe the beach house?)

    3. Contribute to various charities, arts and art preservation societies, and liberal political and civil liberties organizations.

    4. Set up a movie/video game studio and publishing house, which would obviously produce my own movies, publish my own novels, and design my own games, along with my favorite work by other contributors.

    5. Set up an arcade in my house (next to the movie theater), full of computer/console/cabinet video games.

    6. Bonus 6th: Set up an art gallery in my house, featuring original Pollocks, Van Goghs, Picassos, Dalis, Magrittes, Rothkos, etc.

5 places I would run away to:
    1. London

    2. Italy

    3. New Zealand

    4. California (specifically to work at a video game or movie studio)

    5. Canada (to escape the corrupt incompetent theocratic conservative right-wing American government, and to check out a Darkest of the Hillside Thickets show)

5 things I would never wear:
    1. Anything really filthy or infested

    2. Anything advertising or condoning something I hate (like Nazis or Celine Dion)

    3. A fur coat (less because it's inhumane [that would be pretty hypocritical of me, as I eat animals all the time], and more because it looks stupid)

    4. Piercings (less because I think they'd look dumb on me, and more because I think they'd be painful)

    5. Checkered pants with a striped yellow tie

    5 favorite movies:
    1. Vertigo

    2. Citizen Kane

    3. Casablanca

    4. Star Wars

    5. Pulp Fiction

    5 bad habits:
    1. Sticking my finger in my ear in public

    2. Mumbling, often to myself

    3. Lack of confidence in myself

    4. Failure to follow through on dreams/ideas (related to above)

    5. Sometimes I say too little, and sometimes too much.

    5 biggest joys:
    1. poppy

    2. food (see snacks above)

    3. movies

    4. games

    5. music

    5 favorite toys:
(I'm going to reach back into the past a bit for this one.)
    1. My GameCube

    2. My computer

    3. Transformers

    4. Star Wars figures

    5. Legos

    5 fictional characters I'd date:
    1. Kaylee from "Firefly"

    2. Willow from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (I know, I know)

    3. Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle (the book or the movie)

    4. Leeloo from The Fifth Element

    5. Minnie Driver's character from Grosse Pointe Blank

5 people I tag to do this:
I don't think there's five people left amongst those I know who haven't done this yet. But if you feel like doing it and haven't been tagged yet, be my guest.

  • I don't like what they say about poppy, but...I'm the Chief! Woo hoo! He's my favorite. (via ST.)

You scored as CPO Galen Tyrol. You never wanted to be a glamourous Viper pilot. You are happy knowing that without you to fix their birds, they cannot fly. You fell in love with the wrong girl, but is that so wrong? Maybe, but you don't really care.
