Revenge of the Dance
 by Fëanor

  • I experienced deep geek envy a while ago when I saw a dude wearing a Revenge of the Sith T-shirt. "I want that shirt!" I thought. Luckily, before I leaped onto the internet and feverishly ordered one, I remembered that I had already done so, as soon as they came out, right after the title was announced. And this morning I found said shirt where it was hiding, buried in my drawer under many other geeky T-shirts, turned inside out so I had been unable to recognize it. And now I'm wearing it. Ah. Sith-tastic.

  • Speaking of Revenge of the Sith, HOLY GOD AM I EXCITED ABOUT THIS MOVIE. I know I've said that before, but...gah! This article made me quiver with anticipation.

  • UPDATE: You know what other movie I'm excited about (though certainly not as much)? This new flick that's coming out about the Crusades, Kingdom of Heaven. The ads for this make it look absolutely amazing. It's already got a pretty excellent rating on IMDB, too (though its freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes is rather poor). Let's hope both these movies live up to their hype.

  • Last night, after getting trapped in Philly and driving around aimlessly for a while because the ramp we'd been planning to take onto 95 turned out to be closed, we escaped via a bridge and finally made our way up to central/north Jersey to meet the bloginator, his wife, and their tiny, fresh offspring. We talked, had a lovely meal, and made plans to meet again soon. Then it was off to see some dancing!

  • Specifically, we saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, a fantastic American dance troupe who perform amazing modern dance routines. Just last week we had gone to see a ballet called "The Concert" in Philly and were so uncomfortable in the seats at the Merriam Theater, and so disappointed with the dull, lifeless dancing, that we left early, before the main show had even started. Alvin Ailey couldn't have been more different. The show was so sexy, energetic, and alive, and so full of meaning. I'm going to sound like a blurb on a flyer now, but: Their dances bring modern urban America to the stage and make powerful statements on religion and sexuality and feminity and violence. It's amazing stuff. I particularly liked the routine they did to "Manteca," a fantastic jazz piece. (I actually own the specific recording of the song that they danced to on CD.)

  • Happy Cinco De Mayo, everybody! It's 05/05/05, how do you like that? I think I'll celebrate by picking up some Corona on the way home.

  • I've got lots of fun stuff coming up in the next month or so, but I'm not going to bore you with a run-down. Suffice to say, woo hoo!

  • And now I'm pretty much out of stuff to say, so I'll just offer kudos to babyraven for using the phrase "mentholated babies."
