Needles and Sutures
 by Fëanor

  • Man, King Kong is hardly out and we're already talking about Pete's next project? Let the man rest, for God's sake!

Anyways, looks like that project is the inevitable film adaptation of The Lovely Bones. I don't know a lot about the book, except that it was popular, and creepy and disturbing, with a murdered narrator speaking to us from the afterlife. So...sounds like it's a pretty good fit for Jackson! I'll be interested to see what happens with this.

  • Speaking of next films from popular and talented directors, I'd read about a number of possible future projects for Tarantino, but I don't remember hearing about Hell Ride before. Apparently it's a tribute to bad biker movies of the '70s, and it will star perpetual Tarantino character actor Michael Madsen, some guy named Larry Bishop who I feel like I should know, and Tarantino himself. Some of you are probably groaning now (Cinematical certainly is), and yes, I'll admit, Quentin is not exactly the best actor, but in an over-the-top homage to silly biker flicks of days gone by, I think he'll fit in just fine. Besides, it's his movie; he can act if he wants to.

  • I kind of hate the sound of Bruce Willis's next movie, but so does Cinematical, and the way they complain about it is hilarious. Go check it out.

Btw, the movie is called Morgan's Summit, and in it, Willis is the host for some radio show about kindness and happiness. A violent event turns him off onto the path towards vengeance and the Dark Side, but ultimately apparently just leads to a reaffirmation of the whole kindness and happiness vibe. Ugh. Even worse, it's written and directed by the guy who wrote and directed the putrid and unfunny 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag. Double ugh.

  • Cinematical has various items on comic book movies today, but the only really "new" news is the first bullet point here. It's a film called Fist of Blood (which, right off, awesome) and it's about - get this - a gang of zombies fighting a gang of vampires, and a naked woman fighting all of them. Could a movie get any better?? I submit that, no, it could not.

  • Holy crud, that's a lot of LEGOs. A master in the art of LEGO construction has put together a gigantic (and by gigantic I mean 8-feet long, 47 inches wide, and consisting of 35,000 bricks) model of a Rebel Attack Cruiser from SW:E3-RotS. And awesomely enough, it's being auctioned off on eBay for charity. Call me crazy, but I'd kind of like to build that. I hope he wrote down detailed instructions...

  • There's a second trailer for V for Vendetta up, and it's much longer and contains a lot more footage than the first one. I'm not sure how to feel about the movie now. It looks like they've transferred the basics of the story and even many of the visuals quite faithfully, but I can't shake the feeling that the spirit of the original work got lost in the shuffle, and that this could be a seriously bad movie. A story as earnest and as full of meaning and messages as V for Vendetta can very easily be told very, very poorly. And the Wachowski brothers aren't exactly all that trustworthy. Still, I'll be crossing my fingers for this one. (Via The Movie Blog)

  • I gots me a new Phillyist article up! It's a preview about a couple of punk rock documentaries that are screening this weekend. My only chance to go see them was tonight (well, technically last night at this point), but due to the fact that the police were doing something or other at 8th and Market and weren't letting the trains over the bridge into Philly, I didn't end up making it. Instead, I spent a wonderful half hour stranded in a Camden train station with a bunch of charming, screaming children and their charming, screaming (and cursing!) parents. Oh, the joys of the holiday season! Anyways, I ended up coming home and watching Madagascar with my wife, so it wasn't a total loss. Madagascar is totally worth a viewing if only for the monkeys and the lemurs. You can skip all the scenes with the main characters; they're just playing out the basic kids' movie plot where the friends have a disagreement, but after a series of misadventures, they learn the true meaning of friendship, etc. Whatever. The lemurs with the funny accents and the hilarious monkey poo jokes make the movie. Seriously.
