Strings and Pebbles
 by Fëanor

  • A Terminator TV series? Well, I'll give it a try. It's going to be called "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," and will be set in the time period between the second and third movies. Doesn't sound like any of the film actors will be reprising their roles, but that's not terribly surprising. Anyway, it's supposed to be more of a family, relationship show than an action show, and that seems like an odd tack to take (and not exactly what most Terminator fans are going to be looking for), but it could work.

  • Just read the title: Jet Li to star in Tekken movie. That's hot.

  • Pete, a geeky friend at work, sent me this article about an amazing fossil discovery of a large sea-going crocodile that's been dubbed "Godzilla." His complaint was that the creature wasn't enough like Godzilla to warrant the comparison. It's still creepy and cool, though.

Pete also said, in a vaguely related comment, that there's a Philly roller derby chick who goes by the name Mothra Stewart. I don't want to overuse this phrase or anything, like some people we know, but...that's hot.

  • Jessica Simpson and Jake Gyllenhaal in a vampire movie called Flytrap? It sounds so crazy, it just might be true. I can't resist vampire movies, I don't mind looking at Jessica Simpson, and the combination of both of them is the kind of circus stunt it'd be hard to look away from, so I'll probably check it out, if it does end up actually existing. But why call it Flytrap?

  • I heard good things about the original Kingdom Hearts, but I was turned off by the Disney connection. The news that Kingdom Hearts 2 is going to include a Tron world (not to mention a Pirates of the Caribbean world), however, has pretty much sold me on it. Tron! Woo!

  • Sarcasmo brings us this excellent Flickr photoset of paintings, all done by a fellow who is clearly a fan of Star Wars and Hello Kitty. It's neat work.

And speaking of Sarcasmo, have a good trip this weekend, girl!

  • I can't get up a lot of enthusiasm for a sequel to Patrick Swayze's cheesy '80s brawler masterpiece, Roadhouse, but for those of you interested, here's some news on Roadhouse 2.

  • Dudes, two more excellent reasons to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in the theaters: every print of the film will include trailers for Superman Returns and M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water. Rock.

  • Swedish vampire movies. Does that sound hot, or is it just me? Anyway, one is called Frostbite, and the trailer doesn't show all that much, but what it does show is pretty intriguing and cool. I'm guessing from the final catch-phrase ("Dawn is just a month away") that they might be using the long nights at the top of the world as a clever plot device to keep the vampires up and active longer.

The other film is called Storm, and I only have The Movie Blog's word that it's a vampire movie; from the trailer (streaming windows media player version here, if you're into that kind of thing), it looks like a slightly surreal action thriller, with at least one very 28 Days Later type of sequence.

Anyway, both look fun, and I will totally check them out if I get the chance.

  • This is appropriate, coming on the heels of our viewing of Conan the Destroyer at movie night: unsubstantiated rumors that more Conan movies are on the way, and firm word that plenty of Conan video games are also on the way. Crom!
