More Movies...and Monkeys, Too!
 by Fëanor

  • Thank you, Monkeys in the News, for keeping me appraised of important advances in monkey technology! Seriously, that's pretty cool stuff. I've read exciting stories about mechano-arms that obey our brains before, but never one with data about how the brain changes to adapt to the arm.

  • I heard a while ago that Disney was planning on making the Chronicles of Narnia books into a series of movies. I was a little worried about that particular studio being the guys in charge of bringing into the cinematic realm some of my favorite books from childhood. But then I kind of forgot about it--until today, that is, when I came across this WETA featurette on the movie (yes, the effects shop that worked on LotR did the costumes, props, etc.! And yes, they do look totally awesome--check out that minotaur dude!!), and this featurette on the director (who also did the Shrek movies), before eventually finding my way to the actual trailer itself (it's an AOL/moviefone exclusive, and you might need to download special software to get it to work; I did, and Windows XP SP2 made sure it was a pain in the ass for me).

I knew from the first that I was going to have to go see these movies, regardless of how they looked, because of my love for the books. But I felt kind of resigned about it. Now...well, I'm not going to upgrade my attitude to "excited" just yet, but I will say I am at least at "optimistic." The movie will certainly look cool, if nothing else. Although I don't know about Aslan. He appears surprisingly fakey in this trailer.

  • This featurette thing seems to be all the rage now; here's one on the Wallace and Gromit movie. I've been waiting for this movie for a long time, and even though this featurette has totally super-lame narration (the guy sounds like the announcer from Disney, and he obviously has no idea what he's talking about, and neither did the person who wrote that crap for him), I'm still excited that it's finally coming out.

  • Apparently they made a sequel to Deuce Bigalow. That blows my mind.

  • This internet exclusive trailer for Fantastic Four is pretty cool. It's pretty similar to the original trailer, except it includes more dialogue, and some of it is even amusing! Admittedly, I don't see this movie dislodging Sin City as the best comic-to-film adaptation ever, but it could be fun.
