A Couple of Things
 by Fëanor

  • The end of what now? I was pleased to read this news in this morning's paper. I always like it when Blockbuster takes a hit; I want them and their crummy selection and their stupid late fees to be wiped clean by the wrath of God--or the courts, or whatever. And that ad campaign really bugged me. What do you mean, "the end of late fees?" When I first saw those ads, I was like, "That's way too good to be true," but there was no explanation in the ads of what exactly the "catch" was, so I thought just maybe it was actually true--maybe they'd gotten rid of late fees altogether. Even when I went actively searching for the exact mechanics of their new late fee policy, just out of curiosity, I found them difficult to track down, and once rooted out, rather difficult to understand.

Basically, Blockbuster should fire whoever came up with the idea for that ad campaign. Advertising has always been about stretching the truth to make your product look as appealing and necessary to own as possible. But lying flat out to everybody is kind of illegal.

  • Hey, whose name is that on that article about FREITAG Apple laptop sleeves? Looks pretty familiar to me...
