I Made Dinner Last Night!
 by Fëanor

It wasn't the first time I'd made dinner for poppy and me, and poppy helped a lot by making a salad and a side. But this week is the first week I've taken over all the meal planning and most of the preparation. It's made me appreciate a lot more what poppy's been doing. It's hard to pick out meals that will be quick and easy to make (especially when the Food Network is convinced that "quick and easy" can mean 15 ingredients and an hour's worth of preparation), reasonably healthy, and that both of us will enjoy, and to then figure out which ingredients are needed to make them all, build a shopping list, and go out and get all the stuff. And then there's still the actual cooking to do! The whole process made me tense and nervous. But last night's entree (Giada De Laurentiis' Parmesan-Crusted Pork Chops - which includes lemons, of course, because all of her recipes include lemons for some reason) came out quite well, and was actually kind of fun to make. Plus poppy's salad and sweet potato fries were delicious accompaniments.

I realized afterwards that I really screwed up, though. I should have failed spectacularly at making dinner so I could be excused from doing it again in the future. Ah, well.
