Post-a-rific!!!
 by Fëanor

  • Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger have teamed up to fight piracy! No, this is not the plot of their next movie; this is actually happening in the really real world that we live in. Apparently they even filmed a $200,000, 30-second clip with the two of them fighting piracy, as well as getting into explosive car chases for some reason. Be sure to read Cinematical's post through to the end. Those guys are funny.

  • I've just been playing and enjoying Wario Ware for the Game Boy Advance, so the news that the game's creator is working on releases for the Revolution and the DS is pretty welcome, even if I'm still not convinced I'm going to purchase either of those consoles.

  • Okay, I feel for your loss and everything, but a video game did not make your kid jump off a building. Where were you when this happened, anyway? How come you let your kid get so wrapped up in the game? Why didn't you notice he was in serious trouble? And where in the game does it say you should go jump off a building anyway?

  • The top 7 video games for kids, as voted by the kids themselves. Huh. The young 'uns still like Mario these days. That's kind of nice.

On a similar topic, some dude has put together a list of lists of best video games ever (via Joystiq), and upon comparing them all, he's found the game that appears on the greatest number of those lists is Tetris. Makes sense - everybody loves Tetris. I'm confused by the second most frequent game to appear on the lists, though: Super Mario 64. I don't know about you guys, but I hated that game. It's long, it's annoying, it's repetitive, and did I mention it's annoying? Blech.

Anyway, I approve of all the games in the three-way tie for third place - Street Fighter II, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and LoZ: Ocarina of Time. All classics. It's interesting, but I guess understandable, that the PC is the gaming console that appears most frequently on the lists.

  • From the NPR story capsule:
Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday denounced as "dishonest and reprehensible" charges that the White House manipulated pre-war intelligence to gather support for the Iraq invasion.
I'm sorry, sir, but you are the one who is "dishonest and reprehensible." There's documented proof that the White House manipulated intelligence to gather support for the war. You are a liar and a murderer, and frankly not fit to live.

Ahem. Heh. Sorry. But that made me a little angry.

  • For Alito: The More Religion, The Better - Oh, yeah, great. Just what we need more of in our government and judiciary - religion. Sigh.

  • The Superman Returns teaser trailer is here, at long last (via The Movie Blog). There's not much in it, though, which could be a bit of a let down to some. But this is just a teaser, after all, and anyway it's incredibly effective regardless. It makes fantastic use of elements from the original Superman film, including John Williams's excellent score and some choice quotes from Marlon Brando's dialogue. The music alone is absolutely thrilling, and add to that the dialogue and some quick intriguing shots from the new film, and you've got a great, chills-inducing teaser. I can't wait to see more.

  • If the trailer and website are any indication, Terry Gilliam's new film Tideland is going to be his creepiest, weirdest, most surreal movie yet, and that's really saying something. You can find the site here; to get to the trailer, go out the front door and then head towards the upside down bus in the distance. Yeah, you heard me! Anyway, the flick is about a little girl with a messed up family living amongst weird people in a weird place in the middle of nowhere. And on top of all that weirdness, she also has her own deeply strange fantasy world that she's created, which may or may not be intruding on the real world. Wow. I'm hooked. (Found via The Movie Blog.)

  • Sarcasmo reminds us today that there's another Worth 1000 photoshop contest that's worth our attention, this one involving the insertion of superheroes and/or supervillains into classical works of art. This one wins for pure weirdness.

  • Dude, let's go to Scandinavia! One of their airlines are going to offer free PSPs for the duration of their flights. That's metal.

  • Wow, becoming a professional gamer sounds like more work than you might think. Ah, well. Back to web development for me...
