Events and Items
 by Fëanor

We had a pretty exciting weekend! We picked up our buddy Erik from the airport Friday night (after his horrendous and many times delayed trip through flood and pestilence and peril), stayed up talking to him for a while, and then had Peccable and dje2004 over the next day so we could all play games together. It was a good time, and kind of a return to game days of old. Yes, I did enjoy myself, even while playing Game of Thrones, although it may not have seemed that way to my fellow players, due to my almost constant bitching and complaining (which luckily was more amusing than annoying, I'm told). I never seem to do well at the war strategy games, or really feel comfortable playing them, even though they always look very attractive to me when I'm not playing them. Ah, well.

Later that evening, Sarcasmo had a lovely "house cooling" party at her place--I'd list the folks who were there, along with links to their various blogs and sites, but it would take a really long time, and require some research, and I'm too lazy. So I'll just wish a belated happy birthday to Sarcasmo, and thank her again for having me over! I had claimed beforehand that I would certainly not participate in any karaoke that might occur, but after seeing that the karaoke took the form of a video game, I could not resist. I sang a couple of songs, and enjoyed myself, but the experience has nicely put to rest any lingering dreams I might have had of becoming the lead singer of a rock band at some point. Yeah, turns out, I'm not so good at the singing. So I'll just stick to mumbling along to my MP3s and CDs in my cube at work.

This morning we had breakfast with Erik, I dropped off poppy at her book club, and then dropped off Erik at the airport. I wish he could have stayed longer; he's a fantastic fellow and it was great to have him. But he should be down again soon, and maybe we'll get ourselves out to see him one of these days.

Well, that's my weekend up to this point; now, time for ye olde bulleted list of links (edited for length and content):

  • First, another fantastic speech by Barack Obama, via SuperTarzan. See, liberals can be patriotic, too!

  • Even though they also pained my fanboy heart slightly, I did enjoy defective yeti's instructions for editing The Phantom Menace into a more watchable movie. He takes out almost 45 minutes worth of film, erasing pretty much every part that includes Gungans and midichlorians, as well as the entire pod race. I kind of like the pod race, and obviously this is not the way to fix the movie--it really needs to be torn apart and redone from scratch--but it's a nice idea, and an entertaining post.
