Feanor vs. the Weird Train Water and Other Incidents and Accidents
 by Fëanor

Okay, folks, I've got a lot to talk about today, so settle in.

  • I was disappointed to find nothing I could add to my list in the recycling yesterday (well, nothing that I hadn't already put on the list before, anyway), but our landlady is certainly getting no less confounding. Take this incident for example: I'm sitting at home last night waiting for poppy to get home from work. I'm playing some KotOR 2, and I've just taken my socks and shoes off, when I hear some scrabbling and someone shouting, "Hello?" I walk out into the living room, and here's our landlady coming in through the back door with two young women--she's showing them the apartment. She gets totally startled when she sees me. I pointedly say that I would have cleaned the place up a bit if I'd known she was going to bring people to see it, and she says something like, "Oh, that's all right, I've already had other people in." Great. That's great.

Well, I just got out of the way and let them wander around, but I really wish I'd said something. We still might have to leave her a note or talk to her at some point, just to explain to her that it'd be nice to have some warning before she enters our home with strangers in tow--you know, a little more warning than yelling, "Hello?" after having already walked in.

Other options include barricading the doors and changing the locks.

  • This morning my pleasant mood was made even more pleasant when, as I was sitting calmly in my seat on the train as I do every day, reading my Metro as I do every day, a great gout of water splashed down over my head and face and chest and newspaper. My T-shirt got pretty wet, and as I don't tend to bring an extra one with me to change into in case I get hit with random gouts of train water, I have just been sitting here letting it dry out (this has worked out pretty well--it's barely even damp anymore).

I'm hopeful that the mysterious train water was merely some rain that had collected on the roof during the storm last night, and which then somehow randomly found its way out into the compartment when I happened to be sitting under it. Yes, my eye was burning kind of disturbingly for a good while after this incident, but it seems fine now, so as far as I'm concerned, it was rain water, and I don't want to hear any different.

Strangely enough, this is not the first time that mysterious gouts of water have landed on me from above. One night when I was walking home to my apartment in Philadelphia, I got totally soaked by a sudden huge splash of water from above. That water even had a bit of a smell to it, if I remember correctly. Bonus!

  • I learned on Salon this morning that Democrats.com is offering 1000 bucks to anybody who can get Bush to answer Yes or No to a question about that Downing Street memo. Nice. I really can't believe that nobody in the mainstream press has made a big deal about this document. Are they really that scared of the administration? Or are they just afraid they'll lose credibility if somebody attacks the veracity of the memo? If that happened, would they back off immediately, like Newsweek did? I don't mean any offense to the female anatomy, but seriously, what a bunch of pussies.

  • Meanwhile, go Hillary! Check out these quotes from her I got off of Salon. Here she is on the White House press corps:
It's shocking when you see how easily they fold in the media today. They don't stand their ground. If they're criticized by the White House, they just fall apart. I mean, c'mon, toughen up, guys, it's only our Constitution and country at stake.
And here she is again on the administration:
There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda... I know it's frustrating for many of you, it's frustrating for me. Why can't the Democrats do more to stop them? I can tell you this: It's very hard to stop people who have no shame about what they're doing. It is very hard to tell people that they are making decisions that will undermine our checks and balances and constitutional system of government who don't care. It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth.
    Woo hoo!

  • And here's something else to "Woo hoo!" about: King Kong is coming! The trailer for Peter Jackson's King Kong is going online June 28th, and will be screening in front of War of the Worlds when it premiers the next day. Awesome

  • And the long awaited Simpsons movie is supposedly finally in production. I don't know how trustworthy this information is, but it does seem to suggest that a film is a little bit closer to existing at some point in the future, and that's cool.
