Akira, Volume 1
 by Fëanor

Just finished this.

Wow.

Beautiful art, even down to the way people and objects are placed in each frame, and the way the frames are placed on each page. Great, engrossing story, fascinating characters, fun dialogue, amusing comedy, and of course incredible constant action. It's preoccupied with the usual themes of Japanese art post-WWII - the dangers of superweapons, the corruption of nature by man.

Now I know why this book is so famous. Looking forward to volume two.

Can't really think of a criticism, except maybe there are one too many sound effect words in some panels. But actually, I kind of enjoy all the sound effects; it's a nice use of onomatopoeia.

So yeah. I don't think it's my favorite comic book of all time, but it's pretty close.
