Btw...
 by Fëanor

I never mentioned that we tried to go to Cirque du Soleil while we were in Cinncinatti. I say "tried" because we made the mistake of thinking it would be okay to bring kids to a circus on a weekend afternoon. Sigh. Yeah, so note to parents: Cirque du Soleil not kid-friendly! And oddly enough, it wasn't due to the obtuse and pretentious nature of the performance; it was more the fact that it was incredibly loud, which freaked out the young boy and the baby alike. The group of us left in waves; Sarah and I were the last to go at intermission. And to tell you the truth, we all kind of decided Cirque is not our thing anyway. I kind of expected to feel that way, but it was good to go and confirm it. It's just too weird and pretentious for me. What are all those guys doing running around in hazmat suits? What is with the headless guy with the umbrella? Don't get me wrong, a good deal of the performance was really stunning and beautiful, especially the incredible feats of strength, like the woman holding herself up in the air merely by twisting her body around two sheets of cloth suspended by rings from an arch above the stage. But we could really do without all the extra ridiculousness which supposedly symbolized some crap about alienation in society and so forth.

Just dance, monkey! Dance!
