As a follow-up to this post, I present some ideas for new, more honest McDonalds advertising slogans.

McDonalds. What else are you gonna do? Cook?

McDonalds. Can you actually afford anything better? We didn't think so.

What else is here? Sbarros? Ugh. Guess you're going to McDonalds!

Life is naught but soul-crushing emptiness and despair. So what the fuck? Might as well go to McDonalds.

The more recent McDonalds advertising seems to be trying to convince us that it is a hip, cool restaurant where hip, cool, young people come to smile prettily at each other, and to enjoy healthy treats like salads, oatmeal, fruit smoothies, and the like.

Does anybody actually believe this about McDonalds, besides perhaps isolated tribesmen who have never seen or heard about the place before? McDonalds is where you go when you are desperate and you need some greasy garbage that you can stuff down your food hole RIGHT NOW, to reward yourself for being good, punish yourself for being awful, or just because there are literally no other options.

Embrace what you are, McDonalds! Don't try to be something else. You fill an important niche! An important, horrible, desperate niche.

UPDATE: I thought it only right I compose a follow-up post containing some alternative, honest McDonalds ads.

• I feel like I already posted this, but it's funny enough to deserve a repeat appearance.

• I was really impressed with the first part of Comics Alliance's review of The Dark Knight. The site's three-part review of Batman Begins is worth a look, too (click through for the links). These guys are seeing connections and themes and underlying truths about these movies that I totally missed.


• "Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have signed up for 'substantial' roles in The Expendables 2." Make of this news what you will.

• Let's get the Star Wars links out of the way first. Here's a fun poster, here are characters sculpted in plasticine, and here are some Day of the Dead-themed pieces (among other things).


• A classic sculpture updated.


• io9 went to Disney's D23 Expo this past weekend where they got the latest details on Pixar's upcoming movies and saw new footage from The Avengers. I didn't read the spoilery description of the latter, but the first paragraph of the article is very promising.


• A while back I posted a rumor to Twitter that JMS was getting ready to bring back Babylon 5. Even though I'm not such a big fan of JMS anymore, especially as a writer, this was still pretty exciting news; I've always loved B5. Sadly, JMS himself says the rumor's not true.


• The dozen or so of you who wanted another Wolverine movie will be pleased to learn that it starts shooting in November.


• Super Punch presents a sampling of the amazing art of Giorgio Comolo.


• Noelle Stevenson's Broship of the Ring continues! (Via)


• Robot Monster is a terrible old movie where the title character is played by a guy in a gorilla suit wearing a deep sea diver's helmet with antennae on it. An artist named Rustam Hasanov wisely redesigned the character.


• UPDATE: A collaboration album between Lou Reed and Metallica called Lulu is scheduled to be released on November 1st. Um... wow.
