• io9 auditions various superheroes for the position of Santa.


• I would never play it, because it would probably scare the crap out of me, but the trailer for the upcoming Aliens Vs. Predator video game is pretty awesome.


• A superhero comedy called Super is on the way starring Rainn Wilson as the main character, Ellen Page as his wannabe sidekick, Kevin Bacon as his nemesis, and Liv Tyler as, I think, his wife.


• Bryan Singer's baffling no-relation-to-the-recent-TV-series Battlestar Galactica movie is apparently still going to happen; they're currently looking for a writer.


• I've never heard of the Mortal Engines novels, but apparently they're set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world, and Peter Jackson is working on turning them into movies. Neat.


• Bryce Dallas Howard will play a role in Clint Eastwood's upcoming (possibly supernatural) thriller Hereafter.


• Three clips from Daybreakers. Still intriguing.


• The Russians are thinking about sending a robot and a monkey to Mars, instead of a human.


• Tarantino says his next movie will be smaller, less epic, and in a different genre entirely from Inglourious Basterds.


• A trailer for the Karate Kid remake. Well, it doesn't look absolutely terrible. (Via)


• Watch the (actually quite terrifying) short animated film Alma for free online for a limited time. (Via)

• I haven't played it yet, but I'm not entirely sure how this game could be bad: it's Time Donkey, where you play as a time-traveling donkey on a quest for tacos. (Via)


• I've seen and posted Andy Helm's illustrations in the past, but I can't remember if I've posted these great Star Wars drawings before. Even if I did, they're worth an encore posting. (Via)

• Everybody's paying more attention to Marvel these days. Time lists the top 10 oddest Marvel characters. (Via)


• Custom action figures of characters from the Star Wars Holiday Special. (Via)


• It's funny because it's (almost) true. (Via)


• The second part of Underwire's best sci-fi flicks list. Again, pretty great picks. They even included Stalker and The Hidden! My only argument is with Starship Troopers. I don't care what anybody says, that's just an awful movie.


• GMail was down for a while the other day, causing myself and many of my internet friends to panic, just slightly. I haven't seen an explanation for the outage yet.


• Monkeys don't like human music.


• Soon the winner will be revealed and the $1 million Netflix Prize will be awarded.


• Game|Life reviews a video game I've been curious about: Batman: Arkham Asylum. The verdict? Very good.


• The latest on Disney buying Marvel: Geek Dad tries to convince us it might not be a bad thing; another amusing mashup image; Stan Lee gives the buyout a thumbs up; Disney is unlikely to save the Spider-Man musical (via); and The ISS, io9, and Penny Arcade offer their analyses of the deal.


• Cowboys & Aliens just became the flick to watch. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are writing the script, Jon Favreau is directing, and Robert Downey Jr. will star.


• They're making a movie of Deadman, which Guillermo Del Toro will produce. Deadman is definitely not one of my favorite comic book characters, but with Del Toro associated with the movie, I'm mildly interested.


• Get Low stars Bill Murray, Robert Duvall, Lucas Black, and Sissy Spacek, so it's already fascinating. The story also sounds fun, and this clip is entertaining, too. I am intrigued.


• More details on Google Chrome OS; alleged screenshots of the OS (via); Sony is shipping computers with Google Chrome as the default browser; and finally, how to add a bookmarks button to your Google Chrome toolbar.


• Nintendo is finally offering the Wii web browser for free.


• A fascinating graph examining the nature of sci-fi TV post-Star Trek. (Via)

• Bryan Singer is apparently working on a web project which his collaborator, Stewart Hendler, describes this way: "It's sci-fi, it's set in the future, and it's got a Lost vibe to it."


• "A first edition of Truman Capote's 1968 children's book The Thanksgiving Visitor signed by the author to Harry Potter" is up for sale for $1,000. This Harry Potter, of course, was not a boy wizard, but rather a physician from New Jersey.


• Paul W.S. Anderson is going to direct a 3D re-adaptation of The Three Musketeers. It's hard to imagine how this could turn out well, but you never know.


• A new trailer for Astro Boy. It looks a bit cheesy, and it's clearly aimed at a younger audience. It could be fun, but I'm not sure I'm all that interested in it anymore.


• Here's a guy who might be a little bit too much of a fan of the first two Mad Max movies: he moved to the town they were made, got the same breed of dog Mel had in the movies (and gave it the same name), and made himself a replica of the Interceptor.


• This summer, movies made more money than ever before.


• A laptop made an appearance in a 1937 Flash Gordon comic strip.


• The story of a hero who must play a deadly game or die is a long tradition in film and TV, as io9 has discovered.


• The Rocky Horror remake is on hold. Whew.


• A Batman Beyond miniseries is coming in 2010. I assume it's a comic book miniseries and not a TV miniseries, since the announcement came from Dan DiDio.
