i saw it this weekend too! I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think with the swords they were trying to suggest that for whatever reason only Sting glows...though I'm not sure why they would do that. What bugged me about the promos was the idea that thorin was this young, vibrant warrior. In the book I always pictured him as a sort of aged, puffed-up windbag. But I realized, in watching it, that in order to tell the story in the context of the lord of the rings, as a serious adventure with epic undertones, thorin NEEDED to be exactly who he was in the movie. So he won me over there.

Oddly one of the little things that bothered me was the way he completely over-played the setting and effects in the moon runes sequence. I don't know why but that is the thing that keeps niggling at me.

Thorin, most of the dwarves, and Bilbo really looked quite a bit different than I pictured them, but by the time I actually got down to seeing the movie, I'd seen the actors so much in the ads that I didn't even really think about it!

I guess it was a little weird to do the moon runes sequence at a crystal plinth on a cliffside by a waterfall - it could have just happened in Elrond's living room or whatever - but that didn't really bother me very much.
