It was great. Ultraman would randomly annihilate people from his satellite with his heat vision. Owlman and Super Woman were conducting an affair behind Ultraman's back that he knew about but couldn't prove. I highly recommend picking up the various trades.

That was my biggest gripe with it - I knew what I was getting, but I harumphed at the price... I still think it was too much money. If they'd have released it for $10 or $15 less, I'd be OK with it.

Candlebox is another band that I thought had a kickass first release. Unfortunately, they became more and more inconsequential with each subsequent release. Queensryche has also been becoming more and more mediocre since Empire and The Promised Land.

The sad thing is, there really aren't many bands from today that will ever enjoy the staying power of outfits like Aerosmith (who have become the Cheese even so) because of the current state of affairs in the industry. I disagree on Elvis Costello. His first album is fantastic, but a lot of his later albums were equally fantastic. This Year's Model, Armed Forces, and Imperial Bedroom, for instance.

I think you're wrong on King Crimson, too. A lot of their albums are uneven, including Crimson King, but each one has a few gems on it. I like Lizard, Red, and Islands.

You may be right about Velvet Underground. I don't like Nico--her tracks kind of irritate me--but their first disc has "Heroin" on it, one of the greatest rock songs ever.
