Let's get the Star Wars links out of the way first. Here's a fun poster, here are characters sculpted in plasticine, and here are some Day of the Dead-themed pieces (among other things).

io9 went to Disney's D23 Expo this past weekend where they got the latest details on Pixar's upcoming movies and saw new footage from The Avengers. I didn't read the spoilery description of the latter, but the first paragraph of the article is very promising.

A while back I posted a rumor to Twitter that JMS was getting ready to bring back Babylon 5. Even though I'm not such a big fan of JMS anymore, especially as a writer, this was still pretty exciting news; I've always loved B5. Sadly, JMS himself says the rumor's not true.

The dozen or so of you who wanted another Wolverine movie will be pleased to learn that it starts shooting in November.

Robot Monster is a terrible old movie where the title character is played by a guy in a gorilla suit wearing a deep sea diver's helmet with antennae on it. An artist named Rustam Hasanov wisely redesigned the character.

UPDATE: A collaboration album between Lou Reed and Metallica called Lulu is scheduled to be released on November 1st. Um... wow.

I was fascinated by Lazy Cakes when I first heard about them on NPR, so it was fun reading about The Onion A.V. Club's taste test of said relaxing snacks. The intrepid Club members also tried Jacked Up Java Brownies, which are basically the polar opposite of Lazy Cakes. I take it they didn't do this on the same day. They probably would have exploded.

Remember how Super Punch is doing an X-Men: First Class poster contest? Here's the first batch of entries. Some really great stuff. Note that even the lamest one is better than the actual posters.

A blog called Planet Pulp is currently doing a Pixar art jam. Nice! Their last subject was princesses, and also features lots of great stuff. I think I have to subscribe to this blog! (Via)

I greeted the news that Darren Aronofsky is off The Wolverine with a hearty "NNNNOOOOO!!!" I was really looking forward to seeing what he'd do with the character. Ah, well.

Superman Returns, though billed as a reboot of the franchise, was really a sort of follow-up to the previous films. But apparently Zack Snyder's Superman will ignore all other movies entirely. Which is probably just as well, really. Also, it looks like Kevin Costner is going to play Pa Kent. I can't decide how I feel about that. I'm not really much of a fan of Costner's anymore, and he doesn't seem quite old/venerable enough for the part. But we'll see. Costner's probably older than I realize...

I saw this inaccurate animal alphabet and had a momentary and terrible desire to use it to teach my son his ABCs.

I usually steer clear of io9's Morning Spoilers post because... well, it's got "spoilers" right there in the title! But this one has fun quotes from Marc Ruffalo on The Avengers, Simon Pegg on Star Trek 2, and Ridley Scott on Prometheus, amongst many other things.

If you've been awake in the world lately, you can't possibly have missed the fact that Charlie Sheen has recently gone insane. Someone had the brilliant idea of pairing some of his crazier quotes with old Family Circus strips (via poppy). Really, how else can you make Family Circus palatable? Meanwhile, the A.V. Club would like your illustrations of Charlie Sheen as a warlock.

The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets' brilliant concept album, Spaceship Zero, has been out for a while, but they just finally got around to putting together a snazzy video for "20 Minutes of Oxygen," one of the excellent (if deeply depressing) tracks from the record.

A new Toy Story short will premiere in front of the new Muppets movie. This is apparently a different short from the one about Barbie and Ken going on vacation.

GeekDad looks back on 25 years of Zelda. The original Legend of Zelda is still one of the best video games of all time.

You can listen to The Decemberists' new album, The King Is Dead, in its entirety on NPR. As the folks in the band have said in interviews, this album is a departure for them - simpler, more straightforward; not an epic concept album, just a collection of songs. As a result, I'm not as excited about it as I was about their more recent releases, but it's still good music.

Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick are joining forces to create a new Hulk TV series for ABC. "Del Toro will redesign the Hulk using prosthetics, puppetry, and CGI." This could be awesome.

Darren Aronofsky says his Wolverine movie will be called simply The Wolverine, and it won't be a traditional sequel, but more of a "one-off" dealing with Wolverine's time in Japan. Intriguing!

This lengthy trailer for the upcoming superhero TV show The Cape is fun, if a bit cheesy.

Super Punch is having another art contest, and I can't wait to see the submissions this time: the task is to "create a movie poster, or concept art, or custom toy, or any other work of art for Stanley Kubrick's Lord of the Rings, starring The Beatles." This was an actual film project at one point! If only it had actually happened.

The other day I mentioned that I strongly suspected Caprica was not coming back for the second half of its first season (who started this stupid tradition of splitting up seasons into halves, anyway?), but happily I was wrong. In fact, it's coming back early, on October 5th at 10PM. Follow the link for a preview. Looks like we're going back to Grand Theft Auto: Caprica City, and now there are droogs there! (UPDATE: I was a little confused here. Although the second half of the first season is airing early, Syfy has still not announced a decision on the second season, and apparently may not do so until November. So Caprica still might be dead in the water.)

The Onion A.V. Club reviews the pilot episode of the new Nikita. They say there's a lot of exposition, which I hate, but other than that it sounds like it might be okay.

Hey, there's a website where you can order sacks of just cereal marshmallows! Finally you can have your marshmallow fix without all those annoying oat bits getting in the way! (To be honest, the thought of eating straight cereal marshmallows without some plain oats to cut the sweetness is disgusting to me, but I still find this fascinating.) (Via)

Blastr has a fun list of 10 of the best sci-fi TV episodes ever aired. Some pretty good selections here, especially "Hush," "City on the Edge of Forever," and "33," all probably my favorite episodes of the respective series. In fact, "33" hooked me on Battlestar Galactica right away and for good. It's probably the best first episode of a series ever. I might have picked different episodes of The Outer Limits ("Keeper of the Purple Twilight?" "The Children of Spider County?"), Firefly (what about "Jaynestown," man?), and Star Trek: The Next Generation (the one with the flute!), but the ones they chose are mighty good. I think "Home" is the only episode of The X-Files I've never seen, which really pisses me off, because everybody says it's so good. I really should track it down one of these days. As for "The Eye of the Beholder"... I don't know, I've just never been a Twilight Zone guy. My reaction to that episode was pretty much just, "Ah. Yes. I see what you did there."

Martin Scorsese's 15 favorite gangster movies. I'm sad to say I've only seen a handful of these, but I definitely agree with him on White Heat, Point Blank, and Night and the City. (Via)

To paraphrase Cinematical's description, Passion Play is a movie about a down-on-his-luck trumpet player (Mickey Rourke) who seeks redemption from an angel (Megan Fox) who's being paraded around like a circus freak by a local gangster named Happy Shannon (Bill Murray). Woah. Interesting story and an interesting cast. Click through to top it off with an interesting clip.
